Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles

March 15, 1995

TO:              All Fire and Casualty Companies Authorized to do Business in Florida

SUBJECT:   Insurance Information Bulletin – 005

The department has been receiving policy cancellation recalls, transaction 11, with effective recall dates less than effective policy cancellation dates on the insurance file record.

As explained in the filing procedures manual, an effective recall date less than or before the cancellation date will not reinstate the policy on the insurance file. To reinstate the policy, the effective date of the recall transaction must be equal to (same as), greater, or after the effective date of cancellation.

Effective May 1, 1995, transaction 11 recalls will be edited and returned to the filing company as a filing error indicated by a numeric character one in field 302 of the edit mask.

You may correct this error by changing the effective recall date to be equal to or greater than the effective cancellation date. If you are unable to determine the effective cancellation date, the error may be corrected by using the current date as the effective recall date. Use of current date should be utilized only when an effective cancellation date cannot be determined since this could possibly indicate an inaccurate lapse in coverage for the insured on the insurance file.

In addition, effective immediately we have the capability to process compressed data when filed by cartridge media only. If you elect to submit compressed data in cartridge form, the language Compressed Data" must be marked on the tape receipt and the external cartridge label.
