State of Florida

Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles

IMPORTANT: FOR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION

September 24, 1997

TO:              All Fire and Casualty Companies Authorized to do Business in Florida

SUBJECT:   Update of Vehicle insurance policies on the Database - Transaction 20

The Division of Driver Licenses is mailing out postcards to all vehicle owners whose policies can not be verified on our data base. A sample of the postcard is enclosed. These cards are being mailed with registration renewal notices, approximately 90 days prior to the vehicle owner's registration deadline.

As you will see from the sample postcard, we are instructing the vehicle owners to contact you to ensure that their policies are updated electronically, or manually by companies with limited number of policies, on the insurance file on our data base. However, we believe that most of your customers will probably call their local agent when they receive this postcard. Many agents are still not aware of the procedure for the electronic update of policies.

Please inform all your agents in Florida that when they receive this postcard from their clients, they should forward them to you for a transaction 20 update.

We have already started receiving these postcards from some of your agents and clients when they should have been forwarded to you. Each card that is received in the department will be forwarded to you for a transaction 20 update.

Your cooperation in this regard will be highly appreciated. Should you have any further questions please feel free to contact Mr. Joe Glover at (850) 488-2545.
