Corporal Ben Glass

Four more CPS Technicians from the Panhandle join FHP's Child Passenger Safety Program after graduating from NHTSA's 32-Hour Child Passenger Safety Training Course sponsored by National Safe Kids. Lieutenants Gary Howze and Steve Preston, along with Corporal Ben Glass (who recertified) and Trooper Willie Rittenhouse attended the four-day training held August 9th-12th at the Midway Fire Department in Gulf Breeze.

Lieutenant Gary Howze

This intensive, hands-on course is designed to educate individuals to become Nationally Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians. This allows the technicians to help persons select the proper child restraints for their children, and to teach others how to properly install child restraint systems in their vehicles for the safety of their children. This Course was an extensive training course that covers all aspects of child occupant protection as it relates to traffic safety, including crash testing and product analyses of child seats and the effects of airbags on children. During the 4-day course, participants are given plenty of hands-on experience with many different types of restraint systems. The week ended with a Child Passenger Safety Check-up event where the public was invited to come by and have their child restraint systems checked for overall safety for their children.

Currently, FHP has 47 members who are currently certified to install and inspect child safety seats for the public. Congratulations to Lt. Gary Howze , Lt. Steve Preston, Cpl. Ben Glass, and Tpr. Willie Rittenhouse for becoming FHP's newest CPS Techs!
