FHP Academy receives a Diamond Award from SCBC for blood donations 2002-2003.
The Southeastern Community Blood Center’s Mobile Unit is a common site at the Florida Highway Patrol Training Academy. Recently, the SCBC presented the FHP with a Diamond Award for the agency's Exceptional Group Donations from 2002-2003. Overall, FHP donated hundreds of pints of blood. FHP’s overall participation was 220% -- very impressive!

Workers at the SCBC sincerely thank FHP for its generosity, but urge all agencies to continue to donate as often and as much as possible. The nonprofit center continues to have difficulty meeting the demand for blood throughout the North Florida and South Georgia regions. According to the center’s manager, Steve Hawkins, demand for blood is always increasing. Even though donations are currently up five percent, there are more health restrictions than ever on the blood the center can accept. Also, the demand for blood during the summer months is higher because families are on vacation and some people elect to put off surgeries until summer.

The health professionals at the SCBC encourage all of us to donate blood whenever we can. It is an excellent way to help others in need!
