Florida Highway Patrol
The Florida Highway Patrol is a nationally accredited law enforcement agency offering diverse working conditions in a culturally and ethnically expanding society. The Florida Highway Patrol is accepting applications for the position of Motor Carrier Compliance (MCC) Trooper. With full statewide law enforcement authority, including powers of arrest, MCC Troopers contribute to ensuring safety in motor carrier operations through strong enforcement of safety regulations; targeting high-risk carriers and commercial motor vehicle drivers; strengthening commercial motor vehicle equipment and operating standards; and increasing safety awareness in the state of Florida.
More than 242 women and men with specialized training in commercial vehicle enforcement patrol Florida's 80,967 miles of Interstate, and State roads. We work to make our highways safe using state-of-the-art training, equipment, technology and resources. By enforcing the state adopted Commercial Federal Regulations (CFR 49 U.S.C. 113) we will ultimately reduce the commercial motor vehicle-related fatalities and injuries on Florida’s highways. MCC Troopers are highly motivated, hard-working state law enforcement officers that specialize in commercial vehicle enforcement. MCC Troopers enforce regulations of commercial motor vehicles ensuring safe highway transportation of hazardous materials and other commodities. Inspecting commercial drivers log books to assure hours of operation are within regulation. Verifying that drivers possess a valid CDL and hazardous materials permit (if applicable). MCC Troopers detect and apprehend impaired drivers and make arrest(s) for other criminal violations. We also have a contraband interdiction unit, which consists of a MCC Trooper and a canine handler, who specialize in highway contraband interdiction. MCC Troopers also provide supplemental support to local law enforcement agencies during emergency situations.
Applicants must be: at least 19 years old; Florida certified sworn law enforcement officers with one year of experience, a US citizen; have a valid driver's license; a high school graduate; and willing to serve anywhere in Florida. Preference is given to applicants with 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of college course work from an accredited college or university or; U.S. military personnel with two years of service and an honorable discharge.
Weight in proportion to height. Vision: correctable to 20/30, with normal color distinguishing capabilities and a 140-degree field of vision. Each applicant must pass the Physical Ability Test (PAT).
Applicants must pass written, polygraph, psychological, and physical examinations; a background investigation; a credit check and a drug screen.
Annual starting: $31,879.90 (CAD of $384.60 monthly in Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, &Monroe and $234.00 monthly in Lee and Collier counties.)
Paid vacations, holidays, sick leave and military leave. Extensive Health and Life insurance options, deferred compensation plan, contributory retirement plan, educational leave with pay program, uniform cleaning allowance and education salary incentive pay. All uniforms, equipment, weapons, and take-home patrol car are provided.
Currently, only Florida certified law enforcement officers will attend the 17 week training. The Florida Highway Patrol offers the finest law enforcement training in a para-military atmosphere. Physical fitness training is provided daily, as are lodging, meals and study materials.
