Electra Theodorides-Bustle was unanimously appointed by Florida’s Governor and Cabinet as the Executive
Director of the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles on February 27, 2007.
As Executive Director, she is responsible for administering and coordinating all activities of one of the
nation’s largest safety and consumer oriented agencies which include the Florida Highway Patrol, the Division of Driver
Licensing and the Division of Motor Vehicles as well as a large information technology division and an administrative and
business support division.
Ms. Bustle has a diverse legal career in law enforcement which spans over 15 years.
Prior to being named Executive Director, Ms. Bustle served as Assistant Commissioner of Public Safety Services for the Florida
Department of Law Enforcement; General Counsel, Captain and Major for the Sarasota County Sheriffs Office; Assistant General Counsel for the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles; Deputy General Counsel for the Florida Sheriffs Association; and a short time in private practice practicing in the areas of commercial and corporate litigation.
A certified law enforcement officer, Ms. Bustle received her Juris Doctorate from Florida State University
College of Law and has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University of Pennsylvania.
She is married to Dennis Bustle and has a stepdaughter Brittany who is graduating this year from the
University of Florida.
