TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) has partnered with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) to launch Operation Safe Driver. The campaign, which runs from October 16 – 22, is intended to increase safe driving awareness around large trucks and improve safety compliance with commercial truck operators. The FHP will conduct high-visibility traffic enforcement on commercial motor vehicles (CMV) and non-CMV drivers in high crash-rate areas along the I-95 corridor.

“FHP reminds all drivers to be aware of their surroundings and to be attentive while operating a vehicle,” said Colonel Gene Spaulding, Director of the Florida Highway Patrol. “Each year, lives are lost unnecessarily due to unsafe and dangerous driving behaviors and FHP will continue to educate the public on safe driving habits.”

Motorists should always drive responsibly and be aware when driving by trucks. Learning how to safely operate a vehicle in the vicinity of large commercial trucks and other vehicles is the best way to stay safe. Drivers should always use turn signals, share the road, drive defensively and never drive distracted. Staying educated on proper driving behavior around trucks helps ensure everyone arrives at their destination safely.
