January 2012 - Information of Interest
A New Year:
Our best wishes to all for 2012! With the start of the New Year, we renew our commitment to keeping Florida highways safe. We urge all drivers to help us in this task by fastening safety belts when driving a motor vehicle and by making sure everyone else in the vehicle is buckled up. It is also crucial that children of all ages be properly secured in a car seat or a booster seat designed for their age and size. When driving on our highways please share the road and do not drive aggressively or distracted. Be prepared to move over or slow down when you see an emergency or law enforcement vehicle with its lights flashing on the side of the road assisting other motorists. Be a responsible driver by driving sober. By using common sense and following the rules of the road, we can all make Florida highways safe in 2012.

Florida GrandDriver®
What You Should Know About Aging and Driving.
Most older drivers are good drivers. But as we age, most
of us will need to take steps to ensure that we can continue to drive
safely. Changes in our visual, physical and mental abilities will
affect each of us in different ways. That's why the Florida Department
of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles and its partners have created "Florida GrandDriver®."

Donation of Tissues and Organs
The online registry at www.DonateLifeFlorida.org, now allows residents (and even those who live outside Florida) to designate themselves as organ, tissue and eye donors.
The online registry also makes
the exact wishes of registered donors more accessible and current for
organ, tissue and eye recovery organizations. When someone dies, these
organizations will be able to quickly determine online whether that
individual is a potential organ, tissue or eye donor. The
donor’s wishes will then be carried out, providing
life-saving and life-enhancing gifts to patients in need of an organ,
tissue or eye transplant.
